The monkey gland was the invention of Harry McElhone (owner of Harry's New York Bar in Paris) and whose name was inspired by Dr. Serge Voronoff, of the 1920, known in his time as “the monkey gland expert,” who shockingly believed that human aging could be halted or even reversed by transplanting monkey testicles into people.
Monkey Gland Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients
2 oz of gin
1 oz of orange juice
¼ oz of grenadine
Dash of absinthe
Garnish with a slice of orange
Ice cubes
Assembly
Coat the inside of a coupe or martini glass or champagne saucer glass with a dash of absinthe and pour out any surplus. Pour the gin, orange juice, and grenadine into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake until chilled. Use a cocktail strainer to pour the drink into your absinthe-coated glass. Garnish with a twist of orange zest.
